Ophthalmology Clinic

Ophthalmologists at UCSF Children's Hospital offer comprehensive consultation, evaluation and treatment for pediatric eye disorders ranging from the most common to the extremely rare and complex. For children who require eye surgery, our pediatric ophthalmologists perform procedures such as eye muscle surgery for the correction of strabismus, cataract extraction, nasolacrimal duct probing and ptosis repair.

Some of the conditions we evaluate and treat include:

  • Amblyopia
  • Blocked tear ducts
  • Cataracts
  • Corneal disorders
  • Eye birth defects
  • Glaucoma
  • Nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism in children under the age of 5 years
  • Nystagmus
  • Optic nerve disorders
  • Ptosis, or drooping of the eyelid
  • Strabismus

We do not perform routine eye examinations for older children who need glasses or contact lenses.
