Orthopedics

Orthopedics is an area where treatment can make a significant difference in a child's development and life as an adult. Our pediatric specialists are experts in the physical development of children and how a child's ongoing growth requires care that differs from that of an adult.

We treat conditions of the foot, hip, leg and spine as well as rare disorders such as fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva (FOP).

Our experts also specialize in:

  • Growth problems that result in uneven legs and arms
  • Skeletal dysplasias or abnormal tissue growths, including achondroplasia, osteogenesis imperfecta and epiphysial dysplasis
  • Syndromes including Marfan syndrome, a hereditary condition affecting bones, muscles and connective tissues, and neurofibromastosis that cause tumors on peripheral nerves
  • Infections of bones and joints
  • Tumors such as bone cysts, osteochondromas or bone growths and other benign bone conditions
  • Orthopedic problems resulting from neurological diseases such as cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy and spina bifida
  • Trauma, including bone fractures and joint dislocations, and the effects on growing bones
  • Conditions of the hands and arms, including deformities, trigger thumb and brachial plexus palsy

We treat complex problems in collaboration with specialists in neurosurgery, rehabilitative medicine and anesthesiology. As a team, we work closely with physical therapists, occupational therapists, hand therapists and child life specialists.

Parents are vital members of the team and we do our best to ensure that parents are fully informed about their children's condition and treatment.
